India test fires Indigenous Subsonic Cruise Missile ‘Nirbhay’ off Odisha Coast

NF Bureau:  India on Monday successfully test fired 1,000 km strike range sub-sonic cruise missile ‘Nirbhay’ from Odisha coast.

This is India’s first indigenously designed long-range cruise missile, developed by Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) a lab under Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Capable of reaching speeds of 0.6-0.7 Mach & payload of 1.5 Tonne, Nirbhay cruise missile can strike land targets at a distance of up to 1,000 kilometers.

Though the surface version of Nirbhay missile was first test fired from the ITR Chandipur in Balasore on 12 March 2013, the test was a partial success.
