NF Bureau: Pakistan-born Australian cricketer Usman Khawaja turned out to be India’s nemesis as he scored yet another hundred to take the game and series away from India. Australia beat India by 35 runs in the 5th and final ODI to win the series 3-2. India was leading the series 2-0, but Australia bounced back to win the last three games, thanks to Khawaja’s 104, 91, 100.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in Delhi. They posted 272/9 in 50 overs. Opener Khawaja scored 100, while Handscomb made 52. For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 wickets, while Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja took 2 wickets each.

Chasing a victory target of 273, Indian batsmen yet again failed to read the Australian bowlers who had tremendous control with the ball and in the field. India bowled out for 237 in 50 overs and lost the game by 35 runs. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with 56. Kedar Jadhav (44) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (46) were the other top contributors. For Australia, Pat Cummins, Jhye Richardson and Marcus Stoinis took 2 wickets each.

Usman Khawaja was declared ‘Man of the Match’ and ‘Man of the Series’. He had not scored any hundreds prior to this series, but scored two here and almost got another one before getting out in nervous nineties.
