NFN Bureau: Ever since she joined politics (BJP), leaving behind her bureaucratic career, she was tipped to win from Bhubaneswar Parliamentary seat and become a Minister in Narendra Modi’s cabinet. Battle of Bhubaneswar was not easy, as BJD has tight control over all 7 assembly segments here. However, Aparajita Sarangi defied the odds to remain strong from Day 1 and ended things with a win.
He stayed with the people of Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency, listened to their grievances and made them feel comfortable. As a result, people reposed trust in Aparajita even though they voted for BJD in Assembly polls.
Out of 7 Assembly segments in Bhubaneswar, BJD won in Bhubaneswar Central, Bhubaneswar North, Ekamra-Bhubaneswar, Jayadev, Begunia and Khurda. Jatni went to the Congress. However, Aparajita polled 4,86,991 votes while Arup Mohan Patnaik of BJD got 4,63,152 votes. Congress-supported CPI(M) candidate Janardan Pati got just 23,026 votes.
The victory margin in Bhubaneswar is 23,839.
