England launches ICC World Cup campaign with a bang


Nation First News: The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 kicked off in England yesterday. Hosts England started their WC campaign with a spectacular 104-run win over South Africa.

Earlier, South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl. England batsmen proved the Proteas wrong and posted 311/8 in 50 overs. Roy (54), Root (51), Morgan (57) & Stokes (89) were the top scorers. For South Africa, Lungi Ngidi took 3 wickets, while Tahir & Rabada took 2 wickets each.

Chasing a victory target of 312, South Africa kept losing wickets at regular intervals and bowled out for 207 in 39.5 overs. Quinton de Kock (68) & Rassie van der Dussen (50) were the top scorers. Jofra Archer took 3 wickets. Liam Plunkett and Ben Stokes took 2 wickets each.

Ben Stokes was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
