Hirakud Dam releases season’s first Flood Water today


Nation First News:  As water level in Hirakud Dam continues to rise in upper catchment areas following incessant rain, this season’s first flood water of Mahanadi River from Hirakud Dam in Odisha’s Sambalpur district have been released today through Gate no-7 of the dam.

Around 10 lakh cusec of flood water will flow near Mundali by Wednesday midnight, informed Water Resources Secretary PK Jena.

The water level at the reservoir stands at 618.21 ft against total storage capacity of 630 ft.

The dam authorities alerted Collectors of all districts located on the banks of Mahanadi including Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Angul, Boudh, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Phulbani, Khordha, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Puri.
