Hirakud Dam to release season’s first Flood Water on Aug 14


Nation First News:  As water level in Hirakud Dam continues to rise in upper catchment areas following incessant rain, this season’s first flood waters of Mahanadi River from Hirakud Dam in Sambalpur district will be released from August 14.

The dam authorities have decided that the sluice gates of the reservoir would be opened any time after 11 AM on Wednesday.

The water level of the dam stands at 611.19 feet at 1 PM today against the water storage capacity of 630 feet. The inflow of water in Hirakud was 1,54,159 cusec while the outflow was 17,740 cusec, added reports.

However, the authorities are yet to decide how many gates will be opened to release the excess water.
