Odisha’s Mahendragiri among 15 Destinations identified for development under Ramayana Circuit


Nation First News:  Centre has identified 15 destinations in India including Mahendragiri hill of Odisha for development of tourism under the Swadesh Darshan scheme of Ministry of Tourism.

Mahendragiri, is a mountain peak situated at the Paralakhemundi subdivision of the Gajapati district. It is associated with mythological stories from the Ramayana as Mahendra Parvata (mountain). Legend says that it is the place where Lord Parashurama staying eternally and doing tapasya.

The Ministry has initially identified fifteen destinations including Sitamarhi, Bihar for development under the Ramayana Circuit theme namely Ayodhya, Nandigram, Shringverpur & Chitrakoot (Uttar Pradesh), Sitamarhi, Buxar & Darbhanga (Bihar), Chitrakoot (Madhya Pradesh), Mahendragiri (Odisha), Jagdalpur (Chattisgarh), Nashik & Nagpur (Maharashtra), Bhadrachalam (Telangana), Hampi (Karnataka) and Rameshwaram (Tamil Nadu).

This information was given by the Minister of State of Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
