Rajiv Kumar appointed as the next Chief Election Commissioner

As per a notification issued by the Law Ministry, Rajiv Kumar will take over the office on May 15 succeeding Sushil Chandra, who will step down from the Chief Election Commissioner of the ECI on May 14.

Nation First News:  Former Finance Minister and Senior Elections Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has been appointed as the next Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India (ECI) .

As per a notification issued by the Law Ministry, Rajiv Kumar will take over the office on May 15 succeeding Sushil Chandra, who will step down from the Chief Election Commissioner of the ECI on May 14.

Kumar was from the 1984 batch of IAS officials from the Bihar/Jharkhand cadre and was appointed as the election commissioner in August 2020.

Rajiv Kumar holds a range of academic degrees including BSc, LLB, PGDM and a Masters in Public Policy and has over 37 years of experience working for government in various departments at the Center and in government cadres across the social sector, environment and forests, human resources, finance and banking sectors.

Kumar has also served as the Director of the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), SBI, NABARD.
