Social Media giants to draft ‘Code of Ethics’ to prevent misuse during Polls


NF Bureau:  The Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora along with Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra & Ashok Lavasa on Tuesday met with representatives from various social media platforms to discuss issues related to social media content, post implementation of Model Code of Conduct.

The Election Commission urged social media platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Google, ShareChat and TikTok to develop a “Code of Ethics” for the election-related operational details within 24 hours.

Representatives of social media platforms and mobile association of India have agreed to come up with a draft ‘code of ethics’ by Wednesday evening as part of a mechanism to prevent abuse of social media platforms during the Lok Sabha elections beginning April 11.
