Nation First News: In 2014 Assembly Polls, he suffered a shock defeat to BJD Candidate Anubhav Patnaik by losing the battle by a narrow margin of 601 votes. A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then. Soumya joined BJD in 2018, went to Rajya Sabha and emerged as a strong leader within the party. Soumya Ranjan Patnaik contested from Khandapada Assembly seat and won by 81,430 votes – the biggest margin in 2019 Assembly elections in Odisha.
After Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, it’s BJD President and Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, who won by the second biggest victory margin in 2019. Naveen Patnaik won from Hinjili by 60,160 votes. Ranendra Pratap Swain alias Raja Swain is at the 3rd spot with a victory margin of 57,995 votes in Athagarh.
At least 16 candidates have won by more than 40,000 votes in the assembly polls this time and all are from the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
