TV Channels to be allowed to telecast Ratha Jatra with Conditions


Nation First News: Under pressure, the SJTA backtracked on its bidding process and decided to allow all TV channels in Odisha to telecast Ratha Jatra LIVE, albeit with conditions.

SJTA chief Pradipta Mohapatra today clarified that all TV Channels will telecast Puri Ratha Jatra LIVE.

However, the TV channels will be asked to contribute a part of their profit to the temple fund. Similarly, the Channels who don’t show Advertisements during Ratha Jatra, will get free access.

The Sri Jagannath Temple Administration to have a meeting with channel heads in a couple of days to discuss modalities. As per the reports, the Channels may be asked to pay on the basis of the price they offered during the bidding process, as the SJTA is now aware of the market price of broadcast rights. While 7 TV channels had placed their bid, OTV made the highest bid at Rs 54 lakh.

The decision to streamline the process was taken at the meeting of Jagannath Temple Managing Committee presided over by the Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingh Deb and Chief Administrator, SJTA, Pradipta Mahapatra on Tuesday.
