Nation First News: Amidst reports of BJD leader Bhartruhari Mahatab getting the post of Deputy Speaker, BJP’s key ally Shiv Sena has raised questions saying why a party which fought against the NDA in general elections, would be offered the post.
Shiv Sena laid claims to the Deputy Speaker’s post on the ground that they are yet to be adequately compensated in Modi Govt 2.0. With 18 members in Lok Sabha & 3 in Rajya Sabha, Shiv Sena believes it deserves better.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut expressed surprise over the reports of BJD getting Deputy Speaker post, saying how a party that bitterly fought against BJP in both Lok Sabha Assembly polls, can be rewarded with a plum post.
Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray has sought greater ministerial representation for his party in Modi Cabinet, a more weighty portfolio for Arvind Sawant and the Deputy Speaker’s post.
Traditionally, the Deputy Speaker’s post was always offered to the Opposition parties. But, that convention was broken long ago, and ruling party/coalition has been taking the final call.
As BJP needs BJD’s support in Rajya Sabha, the party woos Naveen Patnaik with Deputy Speaker’s post in Lok Sabha. It would be interesting to see what decision is taken after the meeting between PM Modi and CM Naveen in Delhi later this week.
