NFN Bureau: JNU Student Sharjeel Imam, who is facing sedition charges over his ‘cut off North East from India’ comments at a protest rally in Aligarh Muslim University on January 16, has been arrested from Kako village in Jehanabad district of Bihar. He was hiding near his village for the last 4 days.
Sharjeel, a student at the Centre for Historical Studies in JNU, made the controversial remark during a protest against the CAA and the NRC. The police was looking for him across 5 states.
Earlier, Sharjeel’s brother was picked up during a raid at his ancestral home in Bihar. The cops nabbed Sharjeel after receiving inputs from his brother.
Sharjeel Imam is allegedly one of the organisers of the protest at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh protest. However, the protesters have disowned him and distanced themselves from his comments.
