Nation First News: As promised in its poll manifesto, the Narendra Modi Government has approved the extension of its ambitious Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Siddhi) to all farmers.
Nearly 14.5 crore farmers will benefit from the scheme as against 12.5 crore announced earlier in the interim budget. So, an additional 2 crore farmers will be covered under the scheme.
Total burden on the exchequer will increase by Rs 12,000 crore to Rs 87,217.50 crore for the year 2019-20.
The scheme provides income support to small and marginal landholder farmer families with cultivable land holding up to 2 hectare, at Rs 6,000 per year.
The Cabinet also approved the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Pension Yojana under which small and marginal farmers will get a minimum fixed pension of Rs 3,000 per month on attaining the age of 60 years.
As promised earlier, the Union Cabinet approved a new scheme, which assures all shopkeepers, retail traders and self-employed persons a minimum monthly pension of Rs 3000 per month after the age of 60 years.
The Cabinet has also cleared a special scheme for Control of Foot & Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis – the diseases, which are very common among the livestock – cow-bulls, buffaloes, sheep, goats, pigs.
