Rebel BJP Leader Nana Patole rises to Top

NFN Bureau: In 2017, he was the first BJP MP to revolt against PM Narendra Modi and quit, criticising the government policies. In 2018, he joined the Congress. He contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls against Nitin Gadkari, but lost.

Today, Nana Patole has become the Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly unopposed. Patole is known for rebellious attitude. He was elected twice on Congress ticket in 1999 and 2004 assembly polls. Later, he unsuccessfully contested as an Independent against NCP leader Praful Patel in 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

He joined BJP later and defeated Praful Patel in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. He quit BJP in 2017 and returned to Congress fold in 2019.
