Yeddyurapppa draws flak for politicising Balakot Airstrikes

NF Bureau: Former Karnataka CM and Senior BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa has come under severe criticism for his remarks that the pre-emptive airstrikes in Pakistan would help BJP win 22 out of 28 seats in Karnataka.

“The wind is increasingly blowing in favour of BJP. Yesterday’s action of destroying terror hideouts by entering inside Pakistan has resulted in a pro-Modi wave in the country, the results of which can be seen in coming Lok Sabha polls. It has enthused youths; all this will help us in winning more than 22 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka,” said Yeddyurappa.

Politicians cutting across the party lines, journalists and intellectuals have slammed Yeddyurappa for such irresponsible remarks. MoS EAM, General (Retd.) VK Singh confronted Yeddyurappa on Twitter, saying, “@BSYBJP ji, I beg to differ. We stand as one nation, action taken by our government is to safeguard our nation & ensure safety of our citizens, not to win a few extra seats”

VK Singh also posted a video by late AB Vajpayee, saying “This speech by Atal ji highlights our position”.

Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy came down heavily on Yeddyurappa in a tweet:

“The entire nation is united in supporting the central govt&our armed forces to fight terrorism, while #BJP leader @BSYBJP is busy calculating how many extra LS seats the terror attack&Pak war can bring to his party. It’s shameful to exploit our jawans’ sacrifice for electoral gains”.

Update: Under fire, BS Yeddurappa denied politicising the airstrike in Balakot, saying he has been talking about BJP’s prospects in Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka for long and this is nothing to related to the recent airstrike in Pakistan.
