Nation First News: Hectic activities can be seen within the BJP to increase its strength jn Rajya Sabha after the Lok Sabha victory. The party and its ally are set to gain two seats in Assam this month.
Two Rajya Sabha seats in Asam were supposed to go for polls as terms of Congress MPs Dr. Manmohan Singh and Santius Kujur expire on June 14. Kamakhya Prasad Tasa of the BJP and Birendra Prasad Baishya of the AGP got unopposed yesterday, as Congress and its allies decided not to contest.
6 Rajya Sabha seats will be vacant in Tamil Nadu too. But, BJP needs to convince its ally AIADMK if it wants any seats in this Southern State.
In addition, 3 more Rajya Sabha seats fell vacant after Amit Shah & Smriti Irani (Gujarat) and Ravi Shankar Pradad (Bihar) got elected to Lok Sabha. Two of these vacancies would be used to bring Union Ministers S Jaishankar & Ram Vilas Paswan to Parliament.
It would be intersting to see who bags the 3rd Rajya Sabha seat here. BJP’s National Vice President & Spokesperson Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda is one of the few party leaders who are in the Rajya Sabha race. This could be the last chance for the BJP lesders to get into Rajya Sabha in 2019 and they won’t want to lose this opportunity.
