Find How Many Refugees to be benefited from CAA 2019
NFN Bureau: Not lakhs or crores, only 31,313 persons from minority communities in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh living in India, will be benefited from the Citizen Amendment Act, 2019.
The list includes 25,447 Hindu, 5,807 Sikhs, 55 Christians, 2 Buddhists and 2 Parsis, as per the Intelligence Bureau report of 2016. They have been given Long Term Visa on the basis of their claim of religious persecution in their respective countries.
While the CAA 2019 also lists Jains in the list of persecuted minorities from the above 3 countries, currently not a single Jain is awaiting citizenship.
The above list is attributed to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report ,based on an Intelligence Bureau (IB) input in 2016.
It would be interesting to see whether the numbers will increase as the Citizenship Act (CAA 2019) comes into force now. However, as only people who entered India prior to December 31, 2014, will be protected under CAA 2019, chances are almost nil.
